· Updated
On January 10, 2026, over $282 million in cryptocurrency — 1,459 BTC and 2.05 million LTC — was stolen in what investigators have called the largest crypto social engineering attack of 2026. This page provides a live forensic trace of fund movements across Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, and XRP, updated as new on-chain evidence emerges.
- 459.99 BTC ($29.5M) frozen in a single address — still unmoved as of June 2026
- 2.05 million LTC moved June 2–3, 2026 via peel chain technique; LTC balance now ~0
- 3,397 ETH drained through 19-transaction peel chain to Monero after being held 28 days
- Over 45 addresses traced across BTC, LTC, ETH, and XRP with verified chain-of-custody
- Funds routed through THORChain cross-chain swaps and no-KYC instant exchanges
- Monero (XMR) hit an all-time high of $799.89 on January 14, 2026 — 4 days post-theft
- The 77% XMR price surge correlates directly with the laundering operation's XMR purchases
Current Status (June 2026)
BTC: 459.99 BTC ($29.5M at June 2026 prices) remains frozen in a single address, unmoved since January 10, 2026. LTC: 77,285 LTC was the last known unmoved balance; funds moved June 2–3, 2026 via a peel chain, reducing the LTC balance to approximately zero. ETH: 3,397 ETH was held for 28 days, then drained through a 19-transaction peel chain. All funds were ultimately converted to Monero through no-KYC instant exchange services.
How The Funds Were Laundered
The stolen BTC and LTC were immediately split into hundreds of smaller addresses using the peel chain technique — each transaction passes funds through a fresh address, making chain-of-custody tracing labor-intensive. The final destination for the funds was no-KYC instant exchange services that convert cryptocurrency to Monero (XMR). Once converted to Monero, funds become effectively untraceable due to Monero's ring signature privacy design. THORChain was used for cross-chain swaps. The laundering operation's scale of XMR purchases correlates with Monero's January 14, 2026 all-time high price of $799.89 — a 77% surge in 4 days from the theft date.
